001 TYPE-XVI Etsu Egami project
This jacket is a product of the “TYPE-XVI Etsu Egami project,” a collaboration between the artist Etsu Egami and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE. Three works from Egami’s portrait series, “Pablo Picasso,” “Pierre-Auguste Renoir,” and “Paul Cézanne,” have been reconstructed into a garment. The fabric is woven into a pouch-like structure. The front expresses Egami’s dynamic and varied brushstrokes through combinations of weft thread, while polyurethane thread woven into the back creates a three-dimensional effect from the difference in shrinkage between the front and back, giving the garment a painting-like look. Elevating art from something to be viewed to something to be worn, this piece proposes a new way to experience art as part of everyday life.
